What does the Bible say about depression ...
Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
What has a man from all the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun?
For all his days are full of sorrow, and his work is a vexation. Even in the night his heart does not rest. This also is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:22-23
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
My eye is wasted from grief;
My soul and my body also.
For my life is spent with sorrow,
And my years with sighing;
My strength fails because of my iniquity,
and my bones waste away.
Psalm 31:9-10
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
God is gentle and compassionate. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life....God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16; Romans 5:8
God knows your situation and will be compassionate to you if you reach out to Him. God sent His Son Jesus to be crucified, as the ultimate sign of His love for you.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..... As it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one.
Romans 3:23,10
We are all broken. The Bible calls your brokenness sin. Sin is your state of being separated from God and results in all kinds of evil actions. It also causes you to be unnecessarily anxious, and so selfish that others are hurt by your anxiety.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord..... But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God..... For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
Romans 6:23; John 1:12; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
God can make you right. Salvation is a free gift, obtained only through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. No matter how hard you try, your life will never be good enough to earn eternal life. Neither will you ever be too bad to be able to believe in the Name of Jesus.
