Twelve Bible principles that help individuals cope with temptation and addiction
While the Bible may not explicitly mention "daily habits" many of its teachings can be applied as daily practices for mental and emotional well-being. Here are twelve practical daily habits inspired by biblical principles:
Turn Control over to God
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Believe that God is greater than yourself can restore you to sanity.
Take a Moral Inventory
Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!
Lamentations 3:40
Make a decision to turn your will and your lives over to the care of God.
Admit Wrongs
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16
Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of yourselves.
Be Ready to Have Defects Removed
Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
Psalm 139:23-24
Be entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
Ask for Character Defects to be Removed
But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:9
Humbly ask God to remove your shortcomings.
Make a List of Wrongs and Those Harmed
And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
Luke 6:31
Made a list of all persons you have harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.
Make Amends
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Read and Meditate on Bible passages
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
Through prayer and meditation improve your conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
